“They joined with other believers and devoted themselves to the Apostles’
teaching and fellowship.”
Acts 2:42
Today we find ourselves living in a world that uses careers, accomplishments, relationships, possessions and other worldly means to DEFINE our identity and the purpose and meaning of our lives. We don’t want to be DEFINED by the world’s standards or stereotypes. We want to be REDEFINED by the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
The goal of Student Ministries is to REDEFINE what it means to be a disciple of Christ in a day and age where DEFINING what it means to be a Christian is not as easy as it once was. God’s truth has not changed, and yet we have allowed our culture to water down the very truth with which we are called to live by. We want to be the kind of disciples mentioned in the book of Acts, “They joined with other believers and DEVOTED themselves to the Apostles’ teaching and fellowship.” (Acts2:42)
Sundays at 9:30am
Education classes for Middle School students, grades 7-8 and Senior High students, grades 9-12 are offered each Sunday morning. Using Romans 12:2 as their guideline, it is intended that the students “be transformed by the RENEWING of their minds” as they look at the truth of God’s word.
Wednesday Nights 6:45pm-8:15pm
Each Wednesday evening a service is offered for students in grades 7-12.
This student-focused worship service provides an opportunity to REFUEL for the upcoming week. One can’t go far on an empty tank. The same is true in our spiritual lives. We need to constantly REFUEL our hearts with the truth and spirit of Christ!
Dates and Times Vary
Life isn’t always about the serious and the studying. Sometimes we need to MIX it up a bit, and that’s what REMIX is all about! From time to time groups will get together on Sunday evenings to enjoy pizza, movies, bowling, mini-golf or just hang out with each other.
A few of the opportunities we have for our teens are listed below.
Backpack Ministry
A primary focus of the Sr. High Students is the Backpack Ministry. This outreach ministry began in 2008 as an annual project to help in the support of disadvantaged school children who reside within theMeridianSchool District. With today’s economy in a state of crisis, it was brought to our attention that there were children who may have lunches provided each day by the school, but perhaps nothing or very little to eat on weekends. The Backpack Program, working in conjunction with the Meridian Food Bank, is now providing those children with a backpack containing food for six meals and two snacks to carry them through the weekend.
Teen Bible Quizzing
Valley Shepherd’s Teen Bible Quizzing introduces students to intense Bible study and discipleship experiences. While the students enjoy the fun and excitement of competition, they are provided with a great opportunity for dynamic spiritual growth.
Teen Drama
Valley Shepherd teens use Teen Drama as an outreach ministry to present the gospel in unique and creative ways. Your teens will want to be a part of this “impact team” for Christ!
Teen Camps and Retreats
One can always look back on the wonderful memories of church camps and retreats. Trinity Pines Church Camp in Cascade is just such a place for the teens of Valley Shepherd.
Teens not only enjoy camping, good food, countless activities and making new friends, but also experience spiritual growth which they will carry with them throughout their lives.
Teens won’t want to miss out on this fun experience!
